When I finished my download of Battlefield Hardline, I warned myself not to get too worked up. After all, Battlefield 4 disappointed me greatly. So I went and joined a game, while slowly building up my anticipation.
The loading screen is much more dynamic compared to previous Battlefield games, with news updates at the bottom of the screen. My first thoughts were the game looked more cartoonish. Other than that, the menu looked kinda sleek. I also noticed there is this new thing Cash To Spend. This "feature" lets you use the cash you have earned to buy attachments and other cool stuff. It means that we now buy those attachments, instead of unlocking them. This feature greatly pleases me, because it lets me have the choice of what attachment I need to have, instead of randomly unlocking any of it.

Now, moving on to game modes. There will be two new game modes , called Blood Money and Heist. Heist is an objective game mode where the robbers try and blow open a vault and escape with the cash. Meanwhile the cops try to prevent the robbery and the criminal's escape. In Blood Money, an objective pits cops and robbers against each other in a fight to seize a large sum of money from the opposing team. I preferred Blood Money over Heist, as Blood Money offered everyone a chance to take money while in Heist everyone is just focused on the person carrying the cash.
There is now new weapons included in Hardline. The most promising and fun ones were Taser, Riot Shield , and Police Baton. All this changes the gameplay dynamically in real time. For example, I might have headed straight into an enemy if I had a Riot Shield with me. The police baton also allows me to arrest an enemy instead of just knifing them, which is surprisingly satisfying but takes a longer amount of time.
The gameplay feels like a combination of Battlefield 3 arcade run and gun with Battlefield 4's intense cover and shoot. You can still have fun if you're lone wolfing gunning down several enemies at the same time, something that couldn't be done with BF4 because of how the game worked. But it was also satisfying covering my teammates with my riot shield while also providing them suppressing fire while they stole some money, something impossible in BF3 because of some places being too open without cover fire.
The Verdict
Battlefield Hardline Beta has proven that this game isn't just a recycled version of it's predecessors. More often that not, it manages to present intense moments. The adrenaline rush you feel when you try to take the cash while stopping the enemy is something I haven't felt in a while. Kudos to DICE for making such a good Beta , and hopefully the full game will be even better.
