Solid State Drive (SSD) / Hard Disk Drive (HDD)
I bet nowadays when you're ready to switch your aged PC to the most state of the art PC, you will certainly see a major price difference between a HDD and SSD base storage system. For those who don't know the acronym HDD = Hard Disk Drive| SSD = Solid-State Drive. Well for a start, The biggest difference between two is that SSD contains no moving parts and HDD contains a moving head that reads data from the platter. To be IT Geek friendly think of SSD as a enlarged version of your pendrive / thumb drive but with major performance difference. Compared to HDD it is more resiliant to shock (psychical) that is why some ultra portable notebook (ultrabook) uses SSD. Not only that the time for a SSD to acess it's data compared to a HDD is significantly faster because it doesn't need to read it from a platter nor magnetic disk this is the reason that more and more gamers tend to switch to SSD because of the advantage of lower latency. The battle of HDD and SSD is still going on until 2014 prices are still the main challenges that SSD face because it's 6 to 7 times more expensive compared to HDD while suffering a lower storage volume. It's a dilemma for all of us whether to opt for the SSD or to the traditional HDD.
